Wow!! What’s just happened? A somewhat fashionable eruption of modernity has hit Austria’s primary city- Vienna. We are in a world confronted with a social chaos. There is no ‘real’ future. It merges the spirit of the past and the essence of today.
Fashion will always determine the ‘new’-likewise modernity; except it will be surpassed with something ‘newer’. It’s irrational and such definitions will remain a contradiction. This is back to the future; a distinction between the past and present of Vienna’s glory, at the edge.
Hotel Imperial was where the shoot took place; it dates back to 1863. Drawing attention to elegance, elaborate ornamentation and sumptuous surroundings-its suite became the perfect location for the backdrop. And such an Inspiration was found deep inside the minds of NINETEEN74; a project consisting of thirty, or more people from designers, models and stylists alike. The photographer Jürgen Knoth, flirted with the idea that Vienna as a city has finally been recognized for its fashion but rather its history. Consider this masterpiece, a vibe synonymous to the Baroque period.
They’ve done it again and following the success and the initial concept of London’s Calling, Raoul Keil and Nicholas Hardy were itching to push things forward; only this time, it was Vienna’s turn to break the mould. And Jürgen Knoth was the star of the show.
For now, Vienna’s desire to change and to revolutionize a new generation is disrupted by ‘haunted’ past- what was once a promise is now a threat to their future.

Now based in Dublin and holding a great CV, she certainly has had her fair share of experience from Theatre, Film, TV Programmes, Advertising, photography and not to mention designer for various Fashion Shows. From experience, Angel knows that the creative industry can be difficult and feels that this role given to her will help set new boundaries within fashion.

Having possibly made his mark across the globe: Born in Israel, brought up in New York and Switzerland before residing in Brazil for a while and finally back to the States, he now desires to crank and shake it up in Sydney. Even though his core subject was Political Science, Felix is a fashion, editorial and advertising photographer based in New York and Amsterdam. For him, working as a Team Leader on this project means showing initiative to the local fashion community and drawing attention to the uprising of creative sites, such as NINETEEN74.

So what’s new and happening in Chile, then? Does the name Lorena Victoria ring any bells? If not let me give you the low down: Previously, Lorena studied Journalism at the Catholic University of Santo Domingo, in the Caribbean. And, she’s just finished her diploma in Management. That’s not all... she also managed to have her own show on Dominican television and has worked with several magazines [Rumbo, Sensacion, Mujer Unica, Panache, Que Pasa and Uno] as well as working for two newspapers [El Siglo and Listin Diario]. She loves fashion and thinks that this project is a huge opportunity not only to invite others to discover NINETEEN74 but also to showcase young Chilean talent throughout the world.

RIO'S CALLING TEAM LEADER: SAT VELASCO

Sat is now set in promoting and producing her own brand: ‘Cor de Lima’ as well as the ‘Tanga Brazil’ brand. Having studied Fashion Design these in effect acted as her ‘passport’ to broaden her horizons in the fashion industry. Like everyone else who wants make their mark in fashion, it’s only necessary to seek as much experience as possible. Her employment background includes: Design assistant and coordinator at Best Body- Sportswear Company and an assistant buyer for ABEST. Sat thinks that this project will be an exciting global movement. All in all, sat hopes to get an amazing picture! So, be sure to keep an eye out for her ‘Cor de Lima’ beachwear, which will be launched internationally in this up-coming summer season.

Visibility and exposure is what Daniel hopes to achieve when the project is complete. “I applied for this project because I want my work to be seen by many people as possible”, he says. Daniel studied Textile Design at the University of Florence. Although he has collaborated with many different creative’s; for now he’s self employed by choice and necessity.

BUENOS AIRES IS CALLING TEAM LEADER:MARISA CABRERA

Before she could remember, Marisa has always possessed a loving relationship with art and fashion. From the tender age of five her parents encouraged her to take lessons in painting. “I use to draw portraits and experiment with different materials”, Marisa explains. “I soon left and instead I enrolled myself to knitting classes”. Since graduating from the Universidad of Buenos Aires, holding a degree in Graphic Design; Marisa has dabbled into Fashion. “During my free time I use to organise fashion shows [Buenos Aires Fashion Week and Elle Argentina] for a town I was living in”, which eventually directed her to complete a course in Fashion Production and Styling. She was later discovered by a famous stylist from Argentina, who offered to work with her as an assistant for an Argentinean magazine called Para Ti. Soon after she was called to organise a shoot, it was an opportunity she had to accept: “I was touching heaven with my hands…every girl who loves fashion in Latin America wants to work with Para Ti”, she says. Besides teaching Fashion Styling and Fashion History at the Institute Mariano Moreno; Marisa has launched herself into the world of freelance for various magazines, fashion campaigns and advertising and not to mention fashion shows. Marisa says she loves the idea of being around creative people from all over the world and what better way to do it?

MUMBAI’S CALLING TEAM LEADER: MANOJ JADHAV

Manoj has been working as a freelance photographer for the last fourteen years. He studied a B.F.A in photography, in Mumbai. Before taking the plunge in photography, Manoj lived and worked in many countries. He spent six years collectively in Singapore, Dubai, Italy and the UK. Advertising, Fashion and Beauty are the key components to his work. But lately Manoj has been dipping into a lot of portrait work-“I’m enjoying this since its a little closer to my heart”, Manoj reveals to N74. Right now, he’s working on a few book projects and during his spare time he likes to keep active with his personal fine art work. Thanks to Raoul, Manoj got connected with NINETEEN74.COM and instantly feel in love with its concept, "It's really a beautiful platform where I can connect with hundreds of people to search for talent and share ideas". Valentina grew up and lived in Milano for 22 years. Unlike most creative’s, Valentina started off studying psychology for three years in Italy and then made one year of photography in Paris. Soon after she began to establish herself with various photographers [Douglas Kirkland and Franco Fontana], workshops- and eventually seeking employment at Pin Up Studios and Le Studio Rouchon. Presently, Valentina is working on editorials for French fashion magazines. For those who know her, it’s evident that she takes great pride and passion for her work “…I love the idea of taking young talent in fashion and giving them the opportunity to work together and do something really creative”.

Imagine the scene: it’s the year 2222, centuries into the future. Vogue doesn’t exist, neither does Armani, London is war-torn as an army of fashion creatives move forward to make a new mark on the world. “The Next Generation” if you will, the breed of unknown talent set for the future, the ones to watch for in years to come. Such was the concept behind London ’s Calling, a project set up by professional networking site Nineteen74.com’s founder Raoul Keil in collaboration with creative agency Factory 311’s Nicholas Hardy. Designed to bring together some of the hottest young talent around, the result was a team made up of Nineteen74.com ever-growing membership base not only from London, but across the globe; among them a French photographer, a German model, an Israeli designer, and of course a South African-based magazine. Evidence, if ever it was needed, of the internet’s reach. In total some 40 people were involved one way or another in the making of this single dynamic image. “The aim was to have an all-encompassing troop, we considered everybody necessary to make this work, from the hairstylist through to the journalist,” says Keil. The shoot itself took place at Spring Studios in London , with photographer Fabrice Lachant, stylist Semra Haksever and make-up artist Steven Canavan at the creative helm. From models poised to look as if they were moving, to the masterpiece sketches inspired by old war images and “a kind of fantasy land”, it was the innovative genius of FACTORY311's creative director Pierre Doucin and the beauty of computer generation that brought the whole thing together. Say hello to Nineteen74.com’s fashion soldiers of the future; it’s a revolution in the making.

AMSTERDAM'S CALLING TEAM LEADER: AYDEN

Ayden’s passion of photography and music stems from his childhood, probably. He was brought up from all over the Mediterranean and it all started here- when home for him was literally spent ‘on the road’, while his father was on tour: “From what I remember we spent the longest in Casablanca [Morocco] and Nicosia [Cyprus]”. One can only imagine the oriental landscape he was exposed to. To stimulate these wonderful memories, is it any wonder he turned to photography? NINETEEN74 spoke to the man himself to find out more.

NINETEEN74: What did you study?
Ayden: I have a BA in Multimedia Design, which was a combination of audio, video, photography, graphic and web design.

N74: What’s your employment background?
Ayden: Half way through my degree I began working for Telia & Pavla/ BBDO in Cyprus, the advertising agency on the island [and the most creative network worldwide]. I have created work across all media platforms for clients such as Renault and Porsche. I've also had my work submitted for recognition at the ‘Golden Drums International Advertising Festival’ in both print and web category.

N74: What do you do now and where are you based?
Ayden: After three years at the agency I relocated to Amsterdam where I did some assistance work at Tommy Hilfiger and setup my own audio/ visual label: Domina Productions where I was able to focus on my two greatest passions: music and photography.

N74: Why did you apply for this project?
Ayden: One can acquire enough experience…

N74: What do you hope to get out of it?
Ayden: A notch on my bedpost :)

BERLIN'S CALLING TEAM LEADER: THOMAS WOLFZETTEL

" The cool thing to realize about this project is that you’re not only working for yourself and your country but for people from all over the world…I’m so excited about everyone’s creative energy coming together".

Born in 1971, Thomas Wolfzettel belongs to a generation of young photographers and now resides In Giessen-Germany. Last year Wolfzettel founded the platform www.neuepropaganda.de [New Propaganda] with three other colleagues [Bianca Gutberlet, Patrick Strattner, and Ivonne Thein]. It’s a website depicting his work, a somewhat ‘portfolio’. Leafing through his pictures, it seems documenting urban culture and street photography is his forte: “I work at the interface of fashion photography, club culture and everyday life in the city centres”, he explains. He relies on the ‘straight-up’ approach, a genre which was conceived in the sixties but later blossomed in the eighties- featuring people as they are in the metropolis rather than using supermodels with a pristine backdrop. It utilised portraiture and social documentation, particularly fashion.

After studying design Photography, Art and German Studies [in Dortmund and Giessens] he completed projects with Thomas Kellener and dealt with commissions in advertising photography. From 2003-2005 Wolfzettel worked as an assistant for several photographers in Berlin and in Frankfurt. At present, Wolfzettel is uber busy with different projects- he’s in the midst of completing editorial works for magazines.
For now, though, Wolfzettel lives and searches for any creative energy: “In the end, I hope to push the limits of contemporary fashion photography so that it can be placed in a wider social context”.

NYC'S CALLING TEAM LEADER: STEPHANIE RENEE CASSO

"I was in an advanced placement studio art and after school we were put on the subway and sent to Parsons [New School] for nude figure drawing and still life painting”, explains Stephanie.
Born and raised in New York- Stephanie has always managed to engross herself with various art-cultural habits: fine art, painting, drawing, illustration and photography. However, after finishing her programme with Parsons she dropped out of high school to earn herself some extra cash. Soon after, she soon enrolled herself to the Fashion Institute of Technology to study graphic design, she says: "I chose to go there because I LOVE FASHION and wanted to be immersed in that environment".

At present, Stephanie hails at Tribeca Language as a graphic designer, illustrating lots of fun things for kids: "I've created some really cool characters for the new line of textbooks and they are dressed to the nines", she reflects. On top of this, she also works as a screenwriter [for Fun Films inc. and herself] and actress. Yet, she somehow manages to persist with fine art work into her busy schedule. "I still live in New York; however, I did spend a year of my life volunteering in New Orleans as a graphic designer at an art gallery affected by the storms [Katrina and Rita], I just moved back home last July".

So what made you apply for this project? “I love collaborating with an array of creative people…I want to expand my network and make some great contacts”. She later concludes: “Together we can all take NINETEEN74 to the next level”.

LA'S CALLING TEAM LEADER: NICOLAS HARDY

At first, when I was introduced to Nicolas [Factory’s 311 creative director] it was tricky for me to pitch his origins. He had an accent of ‘worldliness’- it was essentially British but it was a mixture of everything. This made sense when I discovered he moved around a lot when he was a kid, mainly due to his parents work.
He was born in Fleetwood: “A nice little seaside village”, he affirms. Eventually, he ended up in a place called Bolton, where he spent the last three years of high school. From here, Nicolas felt life was getting too claustrophobic: “It was a place with a small mentality and soon my brain grew too big for it”, he explains. But he took the initiative to move to Manchester, where he stayed for a few years before fleeing off to Ibiza for a year. This was the catalyst to his travels: after there he headed over to Palm, Miami, Marbella, Madrid and Dubai and then back to Manchester. Having seen it all, he now lays his hat in London.
Nick the self- taught ‘contrarian’ rejected further education to make things transpire through his bold determination and hard work: “I had good experience in sales. So, when I was ready I combined the two”.
From a young tender age Nick has had a deep interest in photography and design. Today, this has made him exceed into various professions from organising events, promotional work, and real estate to selling software.
So, what does the future have in store for you in regards to project collaborations with NINETEEN74? “After the success of ‘London’s Calling’ my agency wanted to take on a project of its own. With great connections with LA…there’s no better place to do it!!”-Nick explains with an enthusiastic tone. “It gives us another chance to collaborate with NINETEEN74.COM and show the world what we can do and to get a tan, of course!!”.

L.A’S CALLING!

Okay, so…The London’s Calling Project is done and dusted-it was indeed super fabulous! However, in the mean time we are just waiting for a few touches here and there to make the result of the final image.
To coincide with the London’s Calling project our team have decided to take it on global tour, next stop: L.A yes, that’s right- California baby!! Partaking some of Hollywood’s most glamorous and hottest people; with the intention to dabble into their glitzy lifestyle we hope it will raise a few heads and get people reminiscing about the good old ‘Boogie Nights’ .
We’re thinking: palm trees, ice- cream, milkshake, candy floss, limos and roller skates with a sort-muted colour palette- bubblegum blues and candy pinks!! Let’s take a step back in time and get this project rolling- HOLLYWOOD HERE WE COME!!

LONDON’S CALLING!

“London’s Calling is an offshoot project that acts as both a fantastic opportunity for a handful of the British capital’s creative’s to be showcased, and a demonstration of the website’s own potential”, says Raoul Keil- founder of NINETEEN74.COM.

Great news: NINETEEN74 are happy to announce their near completion of their very first project- ‘London’s calling’ [how exciting]. It was essentially a photo shoot, which took place in London [hence the name]. The entire project/ collaboration were set-up by users on the website, obviously! From designers, stylists, models to photographers and make-up artists; it was truly a magnificent trip! Get the full story from Chewed Magazine.
Uh oh, a new force of creative energy erupted into the occurrence- otherwise known as FACTORY311. This international agency has already managed to exert a pull on the coolest stars within the music and fashion industry. Kate Perry and the likes of Warner Bros is just a taster of the factory’s existence. You’re probably wondering: “what do 311 have to do with 74’s projects?” Nicolas Hardy- the director of the factory and the co-organiser of London’s Calling. He’s one of the ‘magicians’ who is responsible for creating cool concepts and inspiring images for the site and other publications. Here’s a brief intro to some of the people who got involved with the project...
Tired and bored from the glitzy lifestyle of Hollywood, meet Fabrice Lachant; a photographer who studied film and worked with some of the best producers in L.A. He soon decided to take his life in a different direction- he set up new boundaries with photography in the ‘Big Smoke’. Dipping into documentary and playing with art photography Lachant believes the London's Calling project will have great exposure!
Celine, Givenchy, L’Oreal and Louis Vuitton are just a handful of Steven Canavan’s clients. Fascinated by beauty and all things related to fashion Steven has been working as a make-up artist for the past ten years. He says: “I love my job and applied to London’s Calling as another means of broadening his horizons”.
“I love experimenting with surface, shape and pattern, finding unexpected ways of working with knit is my forte”, exclaims Marianne Velde. Marianne has been in the industry for ten years now, working in a knitwear department for a German company. Last year [Spring 07], she launched her very own label. For her, London’s Calling provides her with the chance to see how other people view her work. She also fancies the idea of so much creativity coming together in one “melting pot”. This is exactly what this project is about- creative minds becoming one.
